What You Need To Know

Before you set out with us on the trip of a life time, we want to go over a few things. The Philippines is an amazing country with so much to offer, but like with most Southeast Asian countries things sometimes don’t go according to plan. This is why we may have to slightly alter the itinerary if we need to. One Life is committed to giving you the best possible experience, so if we need to change something we’ll make sure we’ll replace it with something equally awesome! We also include a domestic flight with a checked luggage allowance of 20kg. If you need more you can you can pay for your luggage at the airport but it can be pretty expensive!

Where do we spend our first night on tour in Manila

We stay at the award winning Z-hostel in Makati

If we arrive 1 day early – can we have an airport pickup?

Unfortunately not. Air port pick ups are on day 1 of the tour only. We do however give you very simple instructions on how best to get from the airport to Z-hostel in your information pack so you shouldn’t have any trouble!

I’m arriving 1/2/3 days before the tour – can you arrange some pre nights of accommodation?

Yes! We can arrange dorm beds at the place we stay during the tour. These nights would be paid in cash on arrival.

Can I upgrade to a twin/double room with my partner closer to the date?

Yes, though this of course depends on availability.

Do I require a visa?

Most countries will get a free 30 day tourist visa in the Philippines upon arrival. Please check with your local consulate or embassy for the most up-to-date information.

How much spending money should I take?

You will get a spending guide in your info pack, but around $30-$40 AUD per person per day will easily be enough.

Do I need hiking shoes?

There is a little walking involved in the Philippines but not much. Sandals and some trainers/running shoes would be fine.

Is it okay for me to bring a 25kg suitcase?

While we really don’t recommend bringing such a large or heavy suitcase, we can make it work. It will be a bit awkward or uncomfortable at times but if it’s absolutely necessary for you to have it the we can make it work. Our recommendation is to bring a backpack no more than 20kg.

Do I need any shots or vaccinations before travelling?

We would always recommend speaking to a healthcare professional and following their advice.

Can you cater for my dietary requirements?

We always do our best to cater for most dietary requirements. Vegetarians and vegans are welcome but please make us aware of your requirements before your tour so we can best prepare.

I’m doing the Cebu/Boracay add-on, are flights included?

No we don’t include any flights for the add-ons.

Which flights should I get for Cebu/Boracay?

You can fly from either El Nido or Puerto Princesa to either Manila, Cebu, or Boracay after your tour. If you are doing an add-on it will be easier for you to fly from El Nido instead of Puerto. This is because El Nido airport is 20min away from where we finish the tour whereas Puerto Princesa airport is 6+ hours away. If you leave from El Nido airport then you can leave at any time of day (though the morning is better for the add-ons). If you are flying from Puerto then please book a flight fro 3pm or later on day 10.

What time do we get back to Puerto Princesa on the last day?

You can choose to fly from El NIdo or take a shuttle back to Puerto Princesa. If you go back to Puerto then you will usually get back at around 1pm.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance on all One Life Adventures trips is compulsory. Our group leader will be taking care of you from the moment you arrive, though things can happen which are out of our control. This is why we require everyone who travels with us to have their own travel insurance by the time they depart for the trip. You will have a much more enjoyable trip knowing that you are covered no matter what happens! When you are choosing your insurance policy, it’s important to make sure it covers the following things:

  • Adventure activities included in the tour
  • Medical expenses
  • Personal belongings (in cases of lost luggage or theft)
  • Missed flights
  • To view our waiver and full terms & conditions please click here
Visas

It is up to you to organise your own visas (if required) for the trip. Most nationalities are allowed to enter the Philippines without visas for a stay not exceeding twenty-one (21) days for tourism. We recommend that you go to this website for the most up-to-date information regarding Filipino tourism visas.

Spending Money

The cost of food and drink in the Philippines is quite low, even for South East Asian standards. Everyone spends money differently so it’s not easy to give a specific number for how much money you will need. The following website gives accurate prices of all the basics in the Philippines, including food and alcohol.

ATMS are few and far between, so make sure you have enough cash with you for smaller day-to-day expenses. We do not advise to bring travelers cheques as finding a place to exchange them can be difficult in Palawan. Your group leader will advise you where there are ATMS in the towns and cities so you don’t have to carry too much cash on you at any one time.

Day 10 of the Tour - Getting to Your Next Destination

Shuttle buses run from El Nido every hour on the hour from 4am to 7pm (with the exception of 12pm). Therefore guests can book their flight from Puerto Princesa to any destination in the Philippines on Day 10 of the tour any time after 3pm. The journey takes 6 hours so bare this in mind.
